(Claytonia perfoliata) AKA Miner’s Lettuce or Winter Purslane. A smash hit in early spring salads! Heart shaped succulent leaves with mild flavour. One of the hardiest of greens, claytonia grows well right through the winter in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse- even outdoors under the snow! The seeds germinate only in cool weather, and will sometimes sit dormant in the soil until conditions are just right. Easily self sows once established.
