Simply the best beet for winter storage, Lutz Green Leaf Beet is robust and tapered, with fine red flesh. The solid green leaves are especially good as summertime greens, too. We started growing this seed as a collaboration with local market growers Cindy and David of Pleasant Hill Farm. They were looking for a reliable and local source for their favourite beet variety. So Cindy and David selected their best overwintered beets for us to grow out for seed, and we’ve taken it from there.
We’ve been impressed year after year with how well this beet variety performs in the garden – it has a deep taproot, which seems to help it mine the minerals it needs to truly thrive. Even in dry years, it can access moisture to plump right up!
