(Allium schoenoprasum) Chives are relatively carefree perennials; once established they need very little attention. Cut the leaves throughout the spring and summer as wanted. The small round purple flowers that appear in summer are edible and great for garnishing salads. Start seeds just like onions or leeks in early spring.
