Peredovik Oilseed Sunflower

(Helianthus annuus)  Although a native North American crop, much work has been done in eastern Europe and Russia to breed black oilseed sunflowers for an alternative to olive oil. Peredovik Oilseed Sunflower is a heavy cropper of small, plump, black seeds rich in oils – great for people interested in growing their own oilseeds or poultry/bird feed. It is also a gorgeous yellow sunflower, 4 to 5 feet tall sturdy plants with one single large head per plant. When grown in a patch, it is a joyful landscape feature that we can’t get enough of gazing at or photographing!
